Trainer's Institute Courses

Each institute is crafted using a variety of topics. You pick from one to multiple course options that meet your needs. To read a brief summary of each course, see below:

So Now You're a Trainer
This workshop introduces Workplace Learning and Performance topics including trainer's roles, competencies and principles of adult learning—including the impact of age on learning and learning styles.

Brain-based Learning: Making Learning Stick
Understanding how adults learn and transferring this knowledge into effective training techniques are the foundation for ensuring effective learning. Topics include: learning principles and instructional techniques, building motivation for learning, matching training delivery to participants' work experiences and learning styles, and techniques to help learners transfer their learning to on-the-job performance.

Needs Analysis
Analysis of organizational needs, learner needs, and job needs are the focus of this session. Participants will apply a systematic approach to identify individual and organizational needs and integrate them into a training and performance plan.

Rapid Instructional Design
The rapid instructional planning model is the foundation of this session. Steps include: analyzing learners, work settings, and work; establishing performance objectives and performance measurements; and developing training materials.

Presentation/Platform Skills
This portion of the Institute delivers high impact techniques and practice on polishing training delivery, establishing rapport with the learners, and using professional visuals. Lots of skill practice gives you the techniques and confidence to delivery dynamic training presentations.

Facilitation/Teaching Skills
Facilitation and teaching techniques that top trainers utilize to bring training content to life are the backbone of this session. Participants practice using brain-based techniques to heighten participant engagement; techniques trainers use to determine if participants are really learning; and how trainers help learners turn what they learn into on-the-job performance.

Coaching for Performance
Trainers are often called upon to coach employees to reinforce newly-learned skills to their jobs. Coaching is also one of the most powerful tools available for reaching performance excellence. This session demonstrates the concepts, models, and skills of coaching that training professionals use to translate learning into performance.

Evaluating Training
How do you know if training makes a difference? In this workshop, participants explore the four levels of evaluation (reaction, learning, behavior, and results/ROI), how to collect data, and report results. Participants will create a reaction evaluation for their own training session.

Training/Learning via Webcasts
More training than ever is being delivered using webcasts—and much of it is not effective! Learn the key skills trainers and subject matter experts need to deliver powerful training using webcast technologies. Participants gain techniques to re-purpose and re-create face-to-face training to webcasts.

Participant Presentations
In this highly interactive session, participants deliver one or more 10-15 minute training presentations that are videotaped. Following each presentation, participants receive constructive feedback from classmates and instructors. Every participant receives a personal DVD of their presentations and feedback to review as they refine their skills.
